- Halil Inalcik spent most of his career at Ankara University in Turkey
in its famous Faculty of History. He moved to the University of Chicago
in the late 1970s where he recently retired. He now serves as the Director
of the Institute of Ottoman Studies at Bilkent University just outside
of Ankara. He is recognized as the leading living historian of the Ottoman
Empire.
