You can see that Alexander's empire included Egypt, Mesopotamia, as well as Persia and even some of the Indus River Valley in the east.  Upon his death, it was divided into sevreal monarchies - the light green, the largest, comprised Mesopotamia and the Persian Empire and was under the rule of the Seleucid monarchy;  Egypt was under the Ptolemies.
