We will not be considering in class chapter 11 of the textbook, as there just isn't time;  but I recommend your reading it in your "spare" time.  If you do so, here are the questions to consider when reading the primary documents;  and questions that I would have assigned for a writing assignment if there had been another week in the semester.

Read:
  • Duiker/Spielvogel:  pp. 242-269.
Written Assignment 13: Due on email by Sunday, 6 pm, April 9.  Answer one of the following questions in 4 to 5 paragraphs.  As in the last one you wrote, I don't want three separate answers for any of the two;  rather, try to integrate your answer to include the three "contributors" in question 1 or the three areas of society in question 2.

1.      What contributions did the Romans, the Christian Church, and the Germanic peoples make to the new civilization that emerged in Europe after the collapse of the western Roman Empire?

2.      What problems did Europeans face during the fourteenth century CE and what impact did those problems have on European economic, social and religious life?
