Written Assignment - final essay for the course.  For this essay, you are to select a topic in which you compare at least two of the many societies we've looked at this semester - you can focus on any aspect that you would like - e.g., in culture, in religion, in politics, in technology, in knowledge and its uses, economics, society, and so on.  I do want the comparison to be the main thust of the essay - we'll go over in class how historians do this;  and I will want your topic "in hand" no later than the first week after the break - by March 13.  Then I will want you to tell me what sources, materials you are going to use for this topic no later than the beginning of week 11 - March 27.  I need the final essay no later than the time scheduled for an "exam" for this class - that is, noon, Friday, May 4- which of course we are not going to have.

Obviously, since I have to submit grades by the following Tuesday morning, I would very much appreciate submissions earlier than this to give me a chance to read them!
